Our story began over 15 years ago...
In the heat of the housing boom that began in 1995, Ross Lumley was instructed by his best friend’s “Rich Dad” to pursue real estate as his means to financial success. In typical nature, Ross dove in head first. Becoming a real estate agent at the age of 19 with Coldwell Banker, he quickly found his love for building new construction alongside of the sales component. Being able to see the beginning and end results was rewarding, and he was eager to learn and inquire about anything on the jobsite from the superiors. Within a few years at the young age of 22, he was running his own successful construction company with over 20 employees within multiple divisions. However, keeping his eye on the market, he noticed a new niche that seemed more desirable than new construction single family homes. As he researched further, he decided to make a wholesale change into buying, renovating, and holding multi-family units. When the housing market started to crash in 2006, this served him well and the company has expanded and grown quickly ever since.
In 2011, Ross Lumley joined Heather Harnell to create The Stepping Stone Group with a passion to change the industry standard in property management for the 2-4 unit size properties. Both partners had experienced unprofessional and unethical practices from previous landlords and decided the best way to impact the market was to implement what they saw missing into their own portfolio of investment properties. They downsized the construction divisions to focus mainly on internal projects and tenant maintenance requests, while Ross continued helping his real estate clients look to buy or sell a property.
Today, The Stepping Stone Group has a team of 8 individuals that are determined more than ever to continue this philosophy. With four diverse divisions to help customers with their next step in real estate, whether renting a home, buying or selling a home, renovating a home, or pursuing real estate as an investment strategy, The Stepping Stone Group has the expertise to guide its customers to that next desired stage.
When he isn’t knee-deep on the jobsite or running the aisles of Menards or Home Depot, don’t plan on finding Ross sitting still. Skateboarding, biking, running, lifting, snowboarding, surfing – Anything active and Ross is happy. Don’t let his dare-devil ways fool you though. While catching air in one of these sports, you can be sure he is thinking about the next business venture. He is also known for his first-class original moves on a dance floor and green juice making abilities, and most importantly labeled online as “Mr. Possibility” for his capacity to see the possibility in anything.
Oldest of four sisters, you may think you see her around town more often than you do – being mistaken as her twin is a regular occurrence for her sisters. Her only child is the furball and company mascot Golden Retriever named Cabo, after her favorite place to explore. Volleyball lover, CrossFit guilty, and huge Foodie (although she doesn’t cook – restaurant exploration is her specialty). She is always determined to keep up with Ross’ antics on the slopes, but it’s been rumored he had to keep up with her at Grandma’s Half marathon run. Needless to say, competitiveness runs deep in her blood.
Whether she is playing her guitar, baking homemade cookies or spending time with her family, chances are you will always find her outdoors. Fishing pole in hand, her favorite weekends are usually spent in a tent in the woods with a good book. A lifelong love of swimming keeps her close to Minnesota's 10,000 lakes but with a passion for road trips, she will happily drive to one of the coasts for some time in the ocean. Her creativity and organization make a great combo for her unique business tactics. You will never find her without a new idea!
Lead Project Manager
With so much charisma and charm you might wonder what else could be said for such a classy dude, but one quick glance in his direction and his glorious beard will be sure to brighten your mood. You may also wonder how can so much talent be prescribed to one man; drummer, artist, activity extraordinaire, super good husband, and connoisseur of fine foods. Tacos, bacon, and tots his delight, but not mentioning his line of work would be an oversight. Project manager or calmer of chaos when things go wrong he will fix it for sure. Goodness! You say, could there be more?! I assure you with certainty he is nothing but humility to his core.
